WAITING FOR THE MOON TO RISE [view completed project]
These are preliminary sketches and style frames for Waiting for the Moon to Rise, my MFA thesis project at Parsons School of Design. Partially inspired by the work of Italo Calvino, the film is a modern fairy tale about a love triangle that has developed between three friends during their journeys to the moon to harvest cheese. The purpose of this project was to create a stop-motion short which successfully tells a story of unrequited love with no dialogue, using puppets with no facial animation. I wanted to find out how to effectively use body language to convey feelings, emotions, and ideas in order to explore the importance of gesture in animated shorts.
